    2021 DJ Lemahieu Performance Thread

It's not being talked about enough...he is one of the main reasons why this offense has dropped off so badly. First year of a big contract and he has sucked. No bones about it.

If he alone was producing at 2019 and 2020 levels, this team would be one of the top offenses (going by OPS+)

With that said, it was painfully obvious he wasn't going to keep up those numbers, but Cashman's plan always involves everyone over-achieving and no one ever getting hurt.

Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

I think the Real DJ lies somewhere between 2019 and this year's version. Overall I still think he adds great value to the roster even @ $15M per season. Lol, he's a better value than Stanton IMO.

He would add even more value if they’d just let him be the everyday second baseman.

I think some of his value is that he's pretty darn good at any of the 3 IF positions he plays. I don't condone always moving him around, but he sure does give Boone choices.

If they'd let Stanton play the field, Stanton would be fine at $22M.

I tend to agree. Whats the highest AAV ever paid to a DH that doesn't ever play the field?

He had a triple and a double to have his first game with at least 5 total bases since he went 4-for-5 with a home run against Boston on June 26.

His .726 OPS is the highest it has been since May 19.

A DJ hitting in the vicinity of, say, .295 (his lifetime BA is about .301) would have helped the Yankees a lot more this year than this .270ish version with his new contract. One expectes Stanton to go into the doldrums for extended periods (and then bust out spectacularly for a week or so). DJ's so-so season may well be the major disappointment from the plate this year. No table to be set when the big guys come to the plate.

I still think Gleyber is the biggest disappointment, but DJ is up there.

The difference between 275 and 295 is marginal. The biggest issue DJ has had this year is that his power numbers are way down on the previous seasons.

2019 his OBP was .375, this year it is 351. But his SLG% is comfortably over 100 points lower. Its 200 points lower compared to last year.

He has gone from being a regular version of Judge to being a regular version of Gardner from 5-6 years back. Thats quite the drop off, especially when he gets the most PA's on the team

I'm thinking DJ just needs a day off once a week at least until the end of the season. He's played a lot. I think he can be better if he gets to catch his breath a little bit.
