What moves do the Yanks need to make?

What do you guys feel the Yanks biggest weaknesses are? Would we definatly need a starter? Would it be Randy Johnson? What about another good arm in the pen? Eddie Guadardo? And should we go with Cairo till the end of the season? Take a chance on Robbie Alomar. Does the offence need anything? Should we ditch Kenny Lofton?

I think we need another starter and a lefty in the pen. Heredia is not gonna cut it. You never know what he's gonna do. Guardado would be nice but I don't know how realistic that is. Other than that I like Cairo at 2nd and Lofton in center every once in a while. But if a good deal comes along for Lofton I say do it.

I would get Johnson for the rotation and a decent lefty for the pen closer to the dead line....

I think the lefty in the pen is very important and would part with lofton. We really do not need 3 CF's and Crosby is alright

Well, let me first say that Lofton has to stay (unless we got Beltran). He is a far better defensive center fielder than Bernie is and is hitting very well. I also would like a guy like that in the playoffs (he was fantastic with the Cubs last year against the Marlins).

Anyways, I don't think we really need to do much. I would like to add a lefty reliever in the pen and that is pretty much about it. Another starter is going to cost too much in this market. A part of me would like to get Randy Johnson but another part of me says that it is stupid to give up a bunch of prospects (especially when you don't have many left) for a 40 year old pitcher no matter how great he is. IF it becomes apparent that if we don't get RJ then he will go to the red sox, then yes, I would like to get him.

That being said, it doesn't really matter what I think because we all know Steinbrenner is going to do whatever it takes to get the best of what is available.

Crosby is not allright at all. There is a reason he has been a career minor leaguer and that is because he isn't that good. I love how he plays but his offense is subpar to say the least. By the way, Lofton has a .378 OBP and a .827 OPS this year compared to Bernie's .364 OBP and .784 OPS. Just a little food for thought.

Bernie isn't going anywhere though. He could be playing worse and wouldn't get traded/benched. He is the long-stay of the team. I just don't think we need lofton, and if he's playing well, and his value is high, trade him. I'd rather see Sierra or Clark at DH, and even though Bernie's skills have declined, I still wanna see him in CF cause he is Bernie Williams, and he is a clutch winner.

i would not move Lofton at this point. He is a better outfielder than Bernie and we can use him as a pinch runner or use him to sacrafice. What I think we need is another lefty out of the pen...Heredia is not going to cut it..isn't steve kline from the cards a lefty? Gammons was talking about a guy from I think Colrado who had an era under one who was a lefty..I think our starting pitching will be fine..if RJ comes along great..but nobody else...Nobody else is worth it...DO NOT GO AFTER ALOMAR PLEASE!!!! Maybe get into the Orlando Cabrera sweepstakes!!
We will be fine...tune up the bullpen...thats it..maybe add a 2nd baseman although our platoon is pretty decent

Same here. If we don't get Johnson I hope they at least make an attempt to get Guardado.

                    What we need:

We need a lefty out of the pen.

Depending on what El Duque brings us, we may or may not need a starter.

Some Outfield depth could be nice.

                    What we DONT need:

Second base. Cairo is very good. Orlando Cabrera is over-rated, and has played AWFUL. Just look at his numbers. Alomar? NO THANKS.

Over-pay for a SP. If it means giving up all our minor league talent for a year or two rental, forget it.

They need more pitchers like Mussina.

I think our pen is fine. Getting Karsay will be a huge boost as well. I agree with Cashman on the fake Mike & the Mad Dog show when he called in saying how they don't really need this "lefty specialist" because are righty relievers have been holding lefties to a low BA....I think Guardado will be way too high of a price with other teams in the mix, if we can get him without giving up anyone good, I am all for it...

My comparison of Lofton to Bernie was not to say that we should try to get rid of Bernie or that I would even rather have Lofton than Bernie. I was just trying to point out that Lofton gets a lot of sh** from Yankee fans when he shouldn't.

What I don't understand from your post is even if you want Bernie playing because he is Bernie, why wouldn't you want Lofton in CF, Bernie at DH and Clark and Sierra on the bench? Lofton is by far the better center fielder which makes us better and we still have Bernie's bat in the lineup.

I love Bernie, and yes, he is a clutch winner, but Lofton is the better defender, and should play CF. Bernie has cost us on defense this season, and we can't be giving away runs, esp. come the postseason.
