Who is everyone rooting for in the AL and NL now?
I want to see the Rays and Dodgers go at it again. At the same time, I also want the Giants to win so no one can scream about payroll and the dodgers at the next round of collective bargaining agreement. I'm also not sure Hal will spend money anyway.

Not sure I'd spend money either. This team needs $75M on top of its current payroll to be competative. They need, at the least, a starting pitcher, an infielder and a catcher.
Q: Who’s the guy on your roster that would have been overlooked if not for analytics? Cashman: Ronald Torreyes. He’s an analytical darling.

I think the Brewers winning it all would be fantastic

How this organization thought that was a good move is beyond me. It just seemed so freaking obvious.

Dodgers all the way. Can’t find it in myself to pull for any of the AL teams, though I respect what Tampa has accomplished.

In the NL, as I have said before, I am married in to a Dodgers family. Quite honestly, I like what they are doing as an organization. The Giants rivalry has worn off on me and I can’t pull for them. I couldn’t care less about the Braves, Brewers or Cardinals.

I doubt Hal springs for that. You also didn't address Voit.

They need an ace. There's no reason to think Cole is an ace anymore. They'd be lucky to have #2. He's probably exactly who he was for quite some time with the Pirates, before he magically found unbelievable movement by moving to Houston- a slightly better than average pitcher. Going into age 31 next season, it's not going to be getting better, that's for sure.

They need to play Judge or Gallo in CF. I'd love to have Marte, but they have too many other holes to plug to have the luxury of 3 CF capable outfielders. This lets them save money with Voit as 1B and Stanton in the corner. Then they can spend money on a starter (or two), a catcher and an infielder- which are all more pressing needs.
Trade off Sanchez and Frazier for whatever little you can get from them. I bet they have SOME value.

I don't see them running Judge or Gallo out to CF on a regular basis. They would just start Hicks if they didn't go out and get Marte.

I think Voit gets traded if they bring back Rizzo. His defense is bad and now he's injury prone. If the NL gets the DH you can probably find a landing spot.

I'm not sure how many teams in baseball want to pay Sanchez 7-9 million dollars for his 3rd arb season. MAYBE someone would take him to be a DH.

Frazier was terrible and missed most the year with dizziness. He's also entering arb 2 and will probably make 3 million or so. Again, probably difficult to trade until he shows he is healthy. Might need to just cut him to save a little money.

You’re not winning a championship with Voit at first base, he’s a butcher in the field,

Sanchez is worth well more than $7-9M on a 1 yr deal on the free market. He's definitely got some value. Frazier is probably toast, Greg Bird style.

I'm not rehashing the Rizzo thing with you again. I'll just say I think they're better off putting Voit there and spending the money elsewhere. Yes, I'm aware Rizzo is better defensively. It's because it's an inefficient use of resources, not because I think Voit is better defensively.

                          So does offense and pitching.
Plenty of WS teams have big defensively liabilities. The team that outperforming every expectations that just made the Yankees their daddy has the just about the worst defensive 3rd baseman and is overall a pretty awful team on the field.

The Rays and Jays are just a little above average (8/9 out of 30). Yankees are 22. Dodgers are 25th. Defense matters, but it's nowhere near as important as offense and defense. If they're gong to improve defense, do it at SS. SS is not only a heck of a lot more important than 1B, it's also somewhere that they'd be improving offensive production. If they improve 1B defense, they're likely paying money and decreasing offensive production.

Trading voit as part of a package for a SS is really the ticket.

This sums it up for me. The roster is flawed and unless Hal is willing to go nuts on payroll like I posted this team isn't fixable next year at least to a level capable of winning a World Series. Not with Tampa, Boston, and Toronto in the same division. So either Hal needs to go on the ultimate spending spree or they should blow it up like I suggested at the deadline. This roster without bringing back one free agent will be over what was the luxury tax in 2021 with all their arb raises coming. Who knows what happens with the CBA but too many contracts on this team are so bad they can't be moved. Unless Hal is willing to spend enough to overcome those bad contracts next year is just another waste.

Might be able to absorb a below average defense player like Voit if they didn’t have so many others on the roster. They need an overhaul. The goal should be to acquire two way players. IMO if the DH slot is not available, Voit has no role on this team.

The bottom line: If BOTH Cashman and Boone return, we are looking at another pathetic lost season in 2022. Case closed.
